Sydney Refugee Team

The Sydney Refugee Team seeks to bring the hope of Jesus Christ to refugees and asylum seekers, to see their lives transformed by the power of God through the building of genuine relationships and through equipping and empowering them to live in a new culture. We seek to actively engage and equip the local church to reach out to refugees and asylum seekers in their community.

Sydney Refugee Team consists of 2 full-time workers, 1 part-time worker and over 50 volunteers. Our team regularly meets with and provides support for over 50 refugee and asylum seeker families who live in the community within Sydney—that's almost 200 individual people! Each of these individuals is a person who is created in the image of God and is loved by God, and we want to show God’s love to them too!

We seek to show friendship to each person we meet. This can be as simple as visiting regularly or enjoying the giving and receiving of hospitality, including meals. We regularly provide food parcels to 16 families and provide food donations to many other families throughout the year.

We run two Family Weekends Away each year that give refugees an opportunity to have respite from challenging day-to-day life; make new friends, have fun and hear the gospel shared.

Canoing (some for the first time!) at the Family Weekend Away.

The funds raised from RIDE this year will go towards their ongoing operational costs, initiatives such as the Family Weekends Away and the provision of Food Parcels.

This year they are hoping to raise $30,000.
